This month has been filled with a lot of positive news with regards to curbing down the spread of the COVID-19. China came out very successful and the number of cases has gone so far down that currently new cases are in single-digit and mostly imported from other countries. Hats off to the measures taken by the Chinese Government and the measures finally are paying off.

We will share very positive news with our readers today.

“Some schools in China have started to reopen after more than a month. Students in Guizhou province, south-west China, are returning to school after more than a month off".

Says the country’s broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV)

Nearly 1 million students in their final year of senior and junior high schools in Southwest China’s Guizhou province attended schools from March 16, 2020.

Customized school buses, wearing masks, getting the temperature checked up, designated routes to classrooms in order to prevent gathering crowds – This gives you an idea of the first school day back which seemed special and safe for the students.

According to the education department of the province, around 2400 high schools reopened and involving about 990,000 students, as the epidemic situation has been eased in the province. Guizhou didn’t have any new confirmed case for nearly a month and the last COVID-19 patient was safely discharged on Monday the 16th.

Zhou Jin - Head of the Education Bureau of Guiyang says,

“More detailed and tailored plans will be made to ensure safe offline schooling for more students”

Also, some schools in the northwestern provinces of Xinjiang and Qinghai have opened sending hundreds of thousands of students back to school.

CHINA’S SYSTEMATIC APPROACH TO NORMALCY

China is taking a very graded and cautious return to the normal daily lives after being able to come out victorious from the outbreak peak in the country. Most of the schools in China have been shut since the third week in the month of January. But its good news that systematically schools have started to reopen meanwhile a close eye is kept by the authorities and the situation is being monitored day by day.

The WHO-China joint commission report released last month in February says that the under-18s experience a “relatively low attack rate” of the virus. The rate is about 2.4% mentioned in the report.

Statement by Gauden Galea – WHO’s China Head

“Opening schools doesn’t mean you open all of these at the same time. So you have to have this weaning back. That will result in a more manageable situation. If a danger emerges you can more quickly stamp it out”.

This is exactly the approach Chinese authorizes have been taking and it has been paying off big time. So far China is the only country that has been able to successfully control the breakout of the epidemic and we hope other countries can learn from the experience of China and take similar measures as taken by the Chinese.
